When it comes to rug cleaning, unlike carpets, rugs are often overlooked. 1) All colours in your rugs are individually dye tested before they touch water.

2) That all the dirt is removed, from the base to the backing before wet cleaning your rug.

3) That your rug cleaner uses “air movement” to protect your rug from mildew.

4) The cleaning agents used are PH friendly.

5) NEVER place a potted plant on an oriental rug & always be cautious about placing a plant near one. Why? (The constant seepage or condensation of water on the bottom of a pot may cause the foundation and the pile to rot, form mildew and fall apart.)

6) Rotating your rugs will help soften sun-fading of the fibres. (we suggest that in a room with direct sunlight, rotate the rug 2 times a year).

1- PRE-WASH INSPECTION: Each rug is inspected for any pre-existing conditions. Many times, soil covers up dye lot variations (abrash), fibre staining, prior dye bleeding, worn areas or white knots that become "uncovered" after the wash. Some of these are weaving characteristics (abrash and white knots), and others are damage that can possibly be repaired or reversed.

Clean Rugs to retain natural feel &  colours

The dyes of your rug are tested for colourfastness. If the dyes are not colourfast, then the rug is prepared by setting the dyes. The rug is given a cold-water, mild shampoo bath, using soft brushes for mild agitation. The rug is soaked for a certain length of time, depending on how much surface soil needs to be brushed out and rinsed from the rug's fibres. The rug is then thoroughly rinsed with water.

After the rug has been cleaned we can move on to applying the protector. This barrier coats each fibre to protect against re-soiling and staining. This allows you to simply mop up spillages as it prevents the fibres from absorbing spills.

Air movers are used to help facilitate drying, without the use of high heat (so there is no worry of shrinkage).

Upon a first wash, it is typical for a rug to shrink slightly (less than an inch) - just as cotton and wool clothing does even in a cold water hand wash. And as with throwing wool or cotton in a high heat dryer, you know this shrinks natural fibres, that's why we dry our rugs the way we do.

Fringes are then washed an additional time after the bath &  then dried. The rug's given a final grooming with a horsehair brush, & then carefully wrapped to ensure its cleanliness during transit. We will then deliver the rug directly to you home and unwrap it for you.

Not all rugs, of course, are the same. Some are manufactured from pure wool, some from man-made fibres and others from a combination of both. This means a variety of techniques and purpose-made cleaning fluids are needed to clean them thoroughly, carefully and effectively - This will ensure that no delicate fibres  are damaged. We will also use our latest allergy treatments on request

We have the depth of knowledge and experience – plus the necessary skills and equipment – to ensure all your rugs are returned to their original pristine condition, and remain fully protected against allergies and further stains for years to come.

We will remove  the damaging soil! Harnessing over 40,000 harmonic vibrations a minute, the RugBadger (shown above) will vibrate out even the most stubborn soil and sediments caught deep in the fibres of your precious rug!!!

Once the pre-wash inspection is complete and before the wash proceeds, the first step is dusting. Some rugs can hold up to one pound of dirt per square foot before they will "look" dirty. Cleaning a rug with pounds of fine grit & dirt in the foundation creates dusting is an important first step to the wash process.

We love rugs. Our main goal is to do what is best and safest for your favourite rug, and we do not use any  harsh chemicals, bleaching agents or any other hazardous materials on your textiles. We are trained in the proper cleaning and care of rugs. During the audit we will discuss any areas of concern that you have regarding your rugs, and your options.
